Job summary

The New York City Department of Social Services (HRA) is recruiting Eligibility Specialist II positions to function as SNAP Interviewers. Duties include interviewing applicants, verifying eligibility, and determining benefit amounts across multiple NYC locations.

Positions require qualifying education/experience as listed in the minimum qualifications. The role operates Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm, with eligibility determinations for SNAP benefits central to the responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Completion of 30 semester credits at an accredited college or university; or a four year high school diploma or equivalent and one year of full-time experience in interviewing, gathering information, or preparing documentation for eligibility decisions; or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
• Special Note: work experience that only incidentally covers these duties is not acceptable for meeting the minimum requirements.

Responsibilities

• Determine and verify initial and on-going eligibility for SNAP benefits through interviews.
• Instruct and advise applicants on proper procedures and forms to use.
• Compute and determine the amount of financial assistance for SNAP benefits by reviewing data for accuracy.
• Receive and review documents to ensure compliance with guidelines and determine eligibility.
• Recommend changes by reviewing payment data against client information to ensure eligibility.
• Prepare eligibility forms from received data and verification to initiate services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
