Job summary

Herr Foods Inc. in Nottingham, PA is seeking a Research & Development Technologist to lead the development of snack products and refine existing lines for regional and national markets.

The role collaborates with R&D specialists, process engineers, and manufacturing teams to launch innovative products on new and existing lines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food science, 3–5 years of related R&D experience, and expertise in product commercialization and SQF environments.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Food Science or related field preferred.
• 3-5 years related experience in food R&D.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent presentation, time management, and organizational skills.
• Experience with SQF environment preferred.
• Familiarity with food manufacturing processes and product commercialization.
• Experience with software and web-based portals (OU Direct, Genesis, Food Chain ID).

Responsibilities

• Develops new and improved methods for food processing, production, quality control, packaging and distribution.
• Develops methods to create and improve food product attributes such as flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, and convenience.
• Conducts sensory evaluations of prototype samples and competitive products.
• Conducts research to assess consumer trends and industry innovation.
• Reviews changes in industry regulations and makes formal recommendations to appropriate teams regarding product revisions or development.
• Develops finished product and process specifications.
• Conducts research on quality improvements, cost optimization, process improvement, ingredient innovation and process technologies.
• Assists with internal and external customer technical issues regarding ingredients, formulation and manufacturing.
