Job summary

Assembly Technologies is seeking an SMT Setup Operator to prepare and set up SMT machines for PCB assembly in a North Carolina production environment.

You will configure machines, load feeders, verify parts, and document setups, ensuring quality and uptime while following IPC and safety standards. Collaboration with operators and technicians is essential for smooth changeovers and process improvements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical certification a plus.
• 1–3 years in electronics manufacturing or SMT assembly.
• Familiar with SMT equipment from Fuji, Panasonic, Juki or ASM.
• Understanding of components, BOMs and assembly drawings.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and use of hand tools.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
• Good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Set up SMT pick-and-place, screen printers and reflow ovens per setup sheets.
• Load feeders, verify parts, orientations and quantities.
• Perform first article inspections and verify setup accuracy with AOI, magnifiers, calipers.
• Assist with machine changeovers, adjustments and minor maintenance.
• Collaborate with SMT operators to resolve feeder loading and placement issues.
• Document setups, materials used and production data.
• Follow ESD, IPC and company safety standards at all times.
• Support inventory control by returning unused materials and reporting shortages.
• Contribute to continuous improvement for quality and efficiency.

Job Summary

The SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Setup Operator is responsible for preparing and setting up SMT machines and related equipment for production runs. This role ensures accurate machine configuration, material placement, and feeder setup according to work orders and production schedules, enabling high-quality and efficient PCB assembly.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Set up SMT pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens according to job specifications and setup sheets.
• Load feeders with components and verify part numbers, orientations, and quantities.
• Perform first article inspections and verify setup accuracy using appropriate tools (e.g., AOI, magnifiers, calipers).
• Assist with machine changeovers, adjustments, and minor maintenance to maintain uptime and quality.
• Collaborate with SMT operators and technicians to resolve issues with feeder loading, component placement, and solder paste application.
• Maintain proper documentation of setups, materials used, and production data.
• Follow ESD, IPC, and company safety standards at all times.
• Support inventory control by returning unused materials to stock and reporting shortages or discrepancies.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for quality and process efficiency.

Requirements

Preferred Skills

• Preferred experience with IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620, J-STD-001 standards

• Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) handling controls.

Working Hours

• Normal work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 7am until 5:30pm with lunch and breaks. Some overtime may be required as needed.
