Job summary

J&T Business Consulting seeks an SMT Process Engineer for our Seymour, CT electronics manufacturing client. You will lead end-to-end SMT line optimization, from solder printing to AOI/X-ray, driving yield and throughput improvements in a high-mix environment.

This role emphasizes DFM reviews with customers, NPI readiness, mentoring junior engineers, and adherence to IPC standards. Strong Lean/Six Sigma, DMAIC, and CAPA skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering required.
• Minimum 3–7 years of hands-on SMT process engineering experience within electronics contract manufacturing (EMS).
• In-depth knowledge of SMT equipment (DEK, Panasonic, Fuji, Heller, Koh Young, CyberOptics).
• Strong understanding of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards.
• Proven Lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving (DMAIC, 8D, A3) experience.
• Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent preferred; experience with MES systems and CAM tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end SMT line design, execution, and continuous optimization (printing, placement, reflow, SPI, AOI, X-ray).
• Own process capability analysis, first-pass yield tracking, defect reduction, and throughput improvements using Lean and Six Sigma.
• Author and maintain SOPs, work instructions, process control plans, and PFMEAs.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate across operations, quality, and maintenance.
• Lead DFM reviews with customers and ensure smooth production ramp-ups.
• Analyze PCB layouts and Gerber files to ensure assembly compliance and minimize defects.
