Job summary

J&T is seeking an SMT Process Engineer to lead end-to-end SMT line processes, improve yield, and drive NPI readiness in a high-mix EMS environment.

You will mentor junior staff, develop SOPs and PFMEAs, partner with customers on DFM, ensure IPC-A-610/J-STD-001 compliance, and advance process capability and line efficiency; this role offers a clear career path toward formal engineering leadership within 1–2 years.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
• 3–7 years of hands-on SMT process engineering in EMS.
• Experience with IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001.
• Lean Six Sigma and DMAIC, 8D, A3, root-cause analysis.
• Familiarity with SMT equipment (DEK, Panasonic, Fuji, Heller).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, execution, and optimization of end-to-end SMT lines.
• Own process capability analysis, first-pass yield tracking, defect reduction, and throughput improvement.
• Write, maintain SOPs, work instructions, process control plans, PFMEAs.
• Mentor junior process engineers and technicians.
• Partner with customer design teams for DFM reviews and smooth ramp-ups.
• Analyze PCB layouts and Gerber files for assembly compliance.
• Procure and validate SMT tooling; IQ/OQ/PQ for new equipment.
• Design or oversee tooling and fixtures to improve throughput.
• Provide real-time troubleshooting on production lines and drive CAPAs.
• Coordinate with maintenance to plan preventative maintenance.
