Job summary

Flex is seeking an SMT Process Engineer in Austin, TX to optimize printing, placement, reflow and AOI/SPI processes. You will troubleshoot defects, lead RCA activities, and support NPI builds.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
• Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills expected.
• Experience with SMT equipment and IPC standards (IPC A 610, J STD 001) preferred.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager the SMT Process Engineer is in charge for process-engineering capabilities focused on cost, quality and delivery improvements in order to hold up a manufacturing organization.

What a typical day looks like:

• Develop and optimize SMT processes including printing, placement, reflow, AOI/SPI.
• Troubleshoot defects and lead root cause and corrective action activities.
• Customer facing experience and technicians training on SMT processes
• Support NPI builds, DFM reviews, and process validation.
• Maintain process documentation and establish process controls (SPC, DOE).
• Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure stable line performance.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean/6σ tools.

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering
• 2-4 years SMT process engineering experience.
• Processes test runs and prepares records (breakdown events, scrap, etc.), charts, and graphs of results for presentation to engineering to identify yield problems or test new products.
• Knowledge of SMT equipment and IPC standards (IPC A 610, J STD 001).
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with equipment such as ASM, DEK/MPM, BTU/Heller, Koh Young, Nordson.
• Lean Six Sigma or IPC certification preferred
