Job summary

Flex is a diversified manufacturing partner in Austin, TX, seeking an SMT Process Engineer to drive cost, quality and delivery improvements on the production floor.

You will develop and optimize SMT processes, troubleshoot defects, train technicians, and support NPI. Collaboration with production and maintenance ensures stable line performance and ongoing Lean initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
• 4–6 years SMT process engineering experience.
• Experience with SMT equipment and IPC standards (IPC A 610, J STD 001).
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with equipment such as ASM, DEK/MPM, BTU/Heller, Koh Young, Nordson.
• Lean Six Sigma or IPC certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize SMT processes including printing, placement, reflow, AOI/SPI.
• Troubleshoot defects and lead root cause and corrective action activities.
• Customer facing experience and technicians training on SMT processes.
• Support NPI builds, DFM reviews, and process validation.
• Maintain process documentation and establish process controls (SPC, DOE).
• Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure stable line performance.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean/6σ tools.

Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, the SMT Process Engineer is in charge for process-engineering capabilities focused on cost, quality and delivery improvements in order to hold up a manufacturing organization.

What a typical day looks like:

• Develop and optimize SMT processes including printing, placement, reflow, AOI/SPI.
• Troubleshoot defects and lead root cause and corrective action activities.
• Customer facing experience and technicians training on SMT processe
• Support NPI builds, DFM reviews, and process validation.
• Maintain process documentation and establish process controls (SPC, DOE).
• Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure stable line performance.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean/6σ tools.

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 4–6 years SMT process engineering experience.
• Processes test runs and prepares records (breakdown events, scrap, etc.), charts, and graphs of results for presentation to engineering to identify yield problems or test new products.
• Knowledge of SMT equipment and IPC standards (IPC A 610, J STD 001).
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with equipment such as ASM, DEK/MPM, BTU/Heller, Koh Young, Nordson.
• Lean Six Sigma or IPC certification preferred
