Order of Preference

The selection for Maintenance and Construction is based on fitness and ability, with preference given to: Maintenance and Construction District, System-Wide (L689), Authority-Wide, and external candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED.

Experience

• Level D: At least 2 years of experience working as a Small Engine Mechanic.
• Following the achievement of a grade level, an incumbent may advance to the next grade after passing required tests, obtaining certifications, and meeting performance standards.

Certification/Licensure

• Valid motor vehicle operator's license from the jurisdiction of residence.

Medical Group

Must complete a medical examination if required. Able to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.

Mission Essential Designation

This role is critical to mission functions and may require reporting during emergencies or service suspensions.

Summary

The Small Engine Mechanic repairs gasoline and diesel engines, stationary engines, pumps, lawn and snow removal equipment, and troubleshoots related problems. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs to restore equipment to serviceable condition.

Essential Functions

• Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs small engine systems and seasonal landscape machines.
• Arranges work, determines methods and materials, repairs and overhauls components, tests performance, and performs adjustments.
• Dismantles units, replaces defective parts, and ensures systems are properly adjusted and connected.
• Operates tools and performs welding and burning tasks as needed.
• Performs preventive maintenance and maintains records of inspections and repairs.
• Responds to operational emergencies, supporting equipment operation during severe weather or disasters.
