Job summary

Nikon SLM Solutions AG in Long Beach, CA, seeks a Material Parameter Development Engineer to advance SLM process parameters for metal powders and varying layer thicknesses. The role involves reviewing market requirements, defining qualification processes, and coordinating projects with customers and external institutes.

You will collaborate with global teams to develop parameter sets, perform full qualification focusing on material performance and process stability, and produce internal reports

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical, Aerospace or Physics with LPBF focus.
• Experience with CAM software used in metal AM processes (e.g., Magics, Build Processor, Netfabb, NX).
• Strong background in scientific research and material characterization methods.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with customers, technicians, engineers, and scientists in an international setting on material science and parameter development.
• Develop parameter sets for new and existing materials to be processed by SLM and perform full qualification focusing on material performance, geometry, stability and productivity.
• Characterize materials (mechanical properties, density, microstructure, SEM, EBSD, fracture surfaces, roughness).
• Prepare deep experiment reports and write external papers or conference presentations.
• Conduct deep statistical analysis of material properties data to ensure high confidence levels and material performance.
• Analyze machine and process capabilities relative to the full build envelope.
• Demonstrate deep analytical skills and understanding.
