Job summary

Wieland is hiring a Slitting Operator in Waterbury, CT, to set up and operate slitter machines with strict adherence to safety and customer specs. The role is on-site, with first shift 7:00 am–3:00 pm and hourly pay range of $29.30–$30.30.

The candidate will monitor materials and machine parameters, perform light maintenance, and coordinate with the metrology lab to ensure product specifications are met. Strong mechanical aptitude preferred.

Qualifications

• English literacy required.
• Experience reading production records and logs.
• Reliability with above average attendance.
• 3-5 years’ experience running coil slitters or related machinery.
• Ability to do industrial math (addition, subtraction).
• Familiarity with micrometers and calipers.
• Excellent decision-making and organizational skills.
• Mechanically inclined; comfortable with small hand tools.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
• Follow PPE and JSP documents.
• Read, understand, and follow all work instructions for the equipment.
• Detect and report faulty operations and unusual conditions.
• Maintain equipment and a clean, orderly work area.
• Set up and operate slitter machines with continuous monitoring of materials and parameters.
• Use gauges and controls to operate the machine and check product.
• Check material for gauge and surface finish; coordinate with metrology lab.
• Move material using forklifts, transporters, cranes, pallets.
• Direct the work of one or more operators to maximize uptime and quality.
• Operate rewind equipment, core cutter, saws, etc.
• Perform light maintenance on machines (rolls, bearings).
• Flex to other plant areas as required.
