Job summary

PTC Liberty Tubulars LLC in Liberty Township, OH is seeking a Slitter Exit Operator to support the exit end of the slitting line. You will safely manage recoiling, packaging, quality control, and offloading of slit steel strips while coordinating with entry operators and supervisors.

The role requires teamwork, clear communication, and adherence to quality procedures within a fast-paced steel processing environment. Prior experience in slitting or tube mill facilities is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of experience in steel processing or tube mill facilities.

Responsibilities

• Operate the recoiler spindle to wind strips tightly and evenly.
• Set up exit overarm separators to align slit strands safely.
• Control exit line tension to meet specifications.
• Operate coil cars, turnstiles, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
• Tag and label coils with heat numbers, gauges, and grades.

The primary objective is to safely and efficiently manage the recoiling, packaging, quality control, and offloading of slit steel strips. This role requires day-to-day teamwork and clear communication to ensure a continuous supply of quality raw material to the tube mill.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOperate the recoiler spindle to ensure newly cut steel strips are wound tightly, evenly, and without telescopingSet up and adjust exit overarm separators to keep individual slit steel strands aligned and physically isolatedControl line tension on the exit side of the slitter to meet precise manufacturing specificationsOperate heavy machinery including coil cars, turnstiles, forklifts, and overhead cranes to safely remove finished coilsApply heavy-duty steel bands and straps to secure finished coils and prevent them from springing openManage scrap materials by operating the scrap baller or winder to safely recycle trimmed steel edgesMonitor and control assigned exit-side processes to meet daily production goalsMaintain quality awareness by inspecting finished steel strips for burrs, edge defects, and correct widthTag and label each finished coil with critical tracking data, including heat numbers, gauges, and steel gradesMaintain open and constant communication with the entry operators, supervisors, and the quality departmentSuggest best courses of action for non-conformances and unexpected processing challengesEnsure work area(s) are maintained in a clean, organized, and hazard-free mannerEnsure transfer of knowledge regarding line status, machine issues, and targets between shiftsUnderstand and follow the PTC Quality Management System policies, procedures, and work instructionsEnsure safe working practices are followed and all accidents, hazards, near misses, and property damage are reported in the required timePerform other duties as assignedThe incumbent is expected to understand that all employees have a shared responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to our customers.
