Job description

Job Description: As a Skills Instructor you will be assisting participants with employment and essential living skills. You will have the opportunity to work with participants and seek opportunities to teach, train, and encourage independence for performing living skills, while offering supervision to participants.

Assess client interest and skills.

Assist clients to exhibit appropriate behaviors in community.

Maintain ongoing assessments of client performance.

Track consumer objectives.

Write reports in a timely manner.

Maintain regular communication with Program Director regarding Client’s activities.

Work with other staff in providing continuity in all aspects of the program.

Assist clients in developing skills in the following areas:

Community integration

Vocational Skills

Cooking

Cleaning

Shopping in natural environments

Food preparations

Personal health and hygiene

Use of community resources

Home and community safety

Diaper changing

Toileting

Driving consumers to community outings

Assure consumers’ medication regime is followed.

Ensure quality control and follow all work safety procedures.

Provides constant supervision to consumers; constant supervision means that clients are not left unattended at any time and/or for any reason.

Maintain certification in First Aid and CPR.

Driving required - Possess valid CA driver’s license and a driving record that is acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.

Other duties as assigned.

Villa’s Adult Day Program (ADP) offers a variety of life enhancing experiences for individuals with developmental disabilities and other disabilities, such as Alzheimer’s disease. This integrated model provides a safe, positive, caring alternative to nursing home care for those who do not need 24-hour skilled nursing. The program is designed to help people stay mentally and physically active, reduce isolation, improve their health, and prevent decline of their abilities. It is a community-based group program that supports families by providing a variety of social and health services to the person needing assistance. The program also provides Licensed Vocational Nurses to help meet the medical needs of our ADP participants and offers therapeutic exercises, nutritional snacks and access to occupational and speech therapy consultation.

Compensation: $20.00/hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:30a - 3:30p (32.5 hours/week)
Location: on-site; 1757 N. Lake Ave. Pasadena, CA 91104
Requirement/Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.

Experience assisting special needs individuals; 1 year preferred.

Satisfactorily pass a background fingerprinting clearance from DOJ/FBI Community Care Licensing/Dept. of Social Services.

Satisfactorily complete a physical & TB screening
