Job summary

Villa Esperanza Services is seeking a Skills Instructor to support adults in Independent Living Services and Supported Living Services, helping them develop, maintain, and apply everyday living skills. The role emphasizes teaching self-advocacy, community integration, cooking, cleaning, money management, transportation, health, and access to community resources, with supervision by a job coach.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience assisting individuals with developmental disabilities (1 year preferred).
• Background fingerprinting clearance from DOJ/FBI and related licensing.
• Physical and TB screenings completed.
• Valid California Driver’s License with at least three years of driving history and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Teach independent living skills to adults served in ILS and SLS.
• Support client in cooking, cleaning, money management, and meal planning.
• Assist with transportation to medical, therapy, and community activities.
• Promote self-advocacy and community integration.
• Coordinate with job coaches to support vocational goals.

Job Description: The Skills Instructor assists in oversight and support for individuals served in the Independent Living Services (ILS) and Supported Living Services (SLS) program. The role involves teaching adults with developmental disabilities to live as independently as possible by developing, increasing, or maintaining skills. Responsibilities include supporting clients in various areas such as:

Monday - Friday 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM + Saturday 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM (25 - 30 hours/week)

• Self-advocacy
• Community integration
• Cooking
• Cleaning
• Shopping in natural environment
• Menu planning
• Meal preparation
• Money management
• Use of public transportation/Metro Access
• Personal health and hygiene
• Use of medical and dental services
• Use of community resources
• Home and community safety
• Support vocational issues with the client in coordination with his job coach.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Experience assisting special needs individuals; 1 year preferred.
• Satisfactorily complete a background fingerprinting clearance from DOJ/FBI Community Care Licensing/Dept. of Social Services.
• Satisfactorily complete a physical and Tuberculosis (TB) screenings.
• A valid California Driver’s License with at least three years of verifiable driving history. * Reliable transportation and a clean driving record are important for safely supporting individuals with special needs. This role includes transporting participants to medical and therapy appointments, community activities and recreational outings, as well as educational or vocational programs to support their individual goals.
