Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance of campus grounds including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, planting, watering, fertilizing, and mulching.
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping tools and equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility vehicles, and tractors.
• Conduct seasonal duties including leaf collection, snow and ice removal, salting/sanding of walkways, and storm cleanup.
• Remove litter, debris, and trash from campus outdoor areas, parking lots, and walkways.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on groundskeeping equipment and report major repair needs.
• Assist other skilled tradesmen to complete project/tasks.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the maintenance, appearance, and safety of the campus grounds to provide an attractive, clean, and welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors. This position performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to landscaping, lawn care, irrigation, and seasonal grounds maintenance. Additionally, this position is responsible for work activities in one or more of the following skilled trades: HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, and Mechanical. Qualified individuals will have the formal education equivalent of a high school diploma, experience operating a zero-turn mower and tractor, and skilled tradesman experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance of campus grounds including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, planting, watering, fertilizing, and mulching.
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping tools and equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility vehicles, and tractors.
• Conduct seasonal duties including leaf collection, snow and ice removal, salting/sanding of walkways, and storm cleanup.
• Remove litter, debris, and trash from campus outdoor areas, parking lots, and walkways.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on groundskeeping equipment and report major repair needs.
• Builds or repairs wooden structures or their structured parts.
• Installs and replaces electrical wiring and fixtures. Install or pipe electrical control piping to devices.
• Assembles, installs, and repairs air, gas and water systems and equipment.
• Repairs and maintains mechanical and automotive equipment, including farm equipment and automotive vehicles.
• Provides a timely response to all service and preventative maintenance work requests as assigned.
• Assist other skilled tradesmen to complete project/tasks.
• Provide quality workmanship and properly prioritize all service and preventative maintenance work requests as assigned.
• Complete and turn in all work orders and documentation.
• Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Experience operating a zero-turn mower and tractor.
Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe and attractive campus environment.
Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in one or more of the skilled trades.
Knowledge of the accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the various skilled trades.
Ability to provide mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates for one or more of the skilled trades.
Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
Ability to maintain inventory on needed parts and tools for one or more of the skilled trades.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and follow instructions with minimal supervision.

General Days/Hours

Monday-Thursday 7:30 am- 5:00 am & Friday 7:30 am - 2:00 pm. Hours will vary depending on the needs of the college.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field preferred.
Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping tools and equipment safely.
Valid drivers license required.
5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
