Job summary

UM04 University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is seeking applications for a full-time position in the Physical Plant Department. This role involves painting work at the journey level, including applying paint and maintaining equipment. Comprehensive knowledge of painting methods and techniques, along with four years of experience in the trade, is required.

Qualifications

• Four years progressively responsible experience in the painting trade.
• A non‑commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license valid in the State of Maryland may be required.
• May require training to work with asbestos.

Responsibilities

• Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect surfaces.
• Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping and dissolving previous coatings.
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment of the painting trade.
• Provide guidance and training in painting work to other maintenance personnel.

Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of painting trade methods and techniques

Skill in use and maintenance of painting tools and equipment

Thorough knowledge of basic mathematics

Knowledge of OSHA regulations related to the painting trade
