Job summary

HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding division is seeking an Outside Machinist - Skilled to join a 24/7 manufacturing team building and maintaining Navy vessels. You will install, align, repair, and test ship machinery, read blueprints, and perform precision measurements to support propulsion and steering components.

You must be able to work any shift and contribute to safety, quality, and operational readiness. Earn up to $35.99 per hour, with overtime opportunities and pathways for long‑term advancement

Qualifications

• Must have experience as an Outside Machinist or equivalent.
• Nice to have prior shipyard experience as an Outside Machinist.

Responsibilities

• Install, align, and repair ship machinery including propelling machinery, pumps, motors, ventilation equipment, and steering gear.
• Work from blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to complete precision mechanical installations.
• Lay out passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and structural surfaces for the installation of shafting, steam lines, and related systems.
• Align reduction gears, bearings, shafting, propellers, rudders, and steering engine assemblies.
• Use hand tools, calipers, micrometers, and alignment instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Support ship construction across diverse shipyard environments and be available to work any shift in a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
