Job summary

Austal USA in Mobile, AL is seeking Outside Machinists to install, align and service shipboard equipment according to engineering drawings and quality standards. You will work in a team environment, perform precise measurements, and adhere to OSHA safety guidelines while contributing to on-time vessel delivery.

Responsibilities include fault finding, assembling/disassembling machinery, and mentoring junior team members.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in the applicable trade, 2 years in shipbuilding, or education in the trade comparable to apprenticeship or 1 year minimum work experience as a B-class outside machinist at Austal.

Responsibilities

• Install equipment on board vessels in a safe and productive manner.
• Disassemble, fault find, repair and re-assemble shipboard equipment as directed by the supervisor.
• Mark and measure to close tolerances using Austal calibrated equipment.
• Safely rig equipment following all OSHA requirements.
• Inspect work and initiate corrective actions to maintain quality.
