Job summary

MasTec Communications Group in Hugo, MN, is seeking a Skilled Laborer/Groundman to support diverse telecom construction projects and learn on-the-job skills in fiber and coax installations.

The role involves trenching, conduit installation, fiber blowing, and equipment operation, with travel 7–10 days and overtime as needed. Valid CDL A/B is required; compensation is hourly with benefits and room for growth.

• Interest in growing within telecom construction (fiber splicing, coax, drilling, etc.).
• Open to travel 7-10 day projects per diem (up to 50% within MN/WI and 50+ hours per week, depending on the weather), and working overtime consistently.
• Valid and current CDL A/B is required.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety procedures and use proper PPE to ensure the safety of yourself, your crew, and the public.
• Perform general labor duties including trenching, backfilling, job site prep, and material handling.
• Assist with installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable, including fiber blowing and placement.
• Support aerial and underground construction as directed and trained.
• Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment between job sites.
• Assist with equipment and vehicle operations (trucks, trailers, and construction equipment) as directed and certified.
• Support site cleanup, basic maintenance, and overall job site organization.
• Assist with troubleshooting and basic repair of RF and fiber systems as needed.
• Learn to read and interpret construction prints, maps, and design schematics.
• Gain experience with telecom tools and equipment such as bucket trucks, line trucks, cable reels, and power tools.

Compensation

Compensation of $21-$24 per hour, depending on the experience.
