Job summary

Conroe Independent School District is seeking a skilled carpenter/maintenance worker to support district facilities. You will plan, lay out, fabricate, repair, and install fixtures, doors, windows, and outdoor structures across district buildings.

You will interpret plans, estimate materials, use hand and power tools, and ensure safety and compliance in daily work. Strong carpentry knowledge and the ability to work independently are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum three to five years commercial and residential construction experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan and complete construction from initial layout to assembly using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders.
• Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
• Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, etc.
• Construct and repair outdoor equipment including fences, gates, bleachers, etc.
• Detect needed repairs on building, ground, and equipment by following established inspection procedures.
• Replace and repair cabinets, fixtures, and woodwork, etc.
• Assist with the installation and moving of portable buildings, including constructing steps, installing underpinning, etc.
• Receive and complete work orders.
• Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
• Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
• Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and remove scraps and lumber as needed.
• Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
• Respond to emergency calls as needed.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
• Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Respond to emergency calls as needed and be on-call/stand-by as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
