Job summary

Emery Sapp & Sons is seeking a Skid Steer Operator for the Asphalt division's Base Prep Crew. The role focuses on preparing roadways, parking lots, and other paving surfaces before asphalt placement, with emphasis on safety, quality, and productivity.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of heavy equipment experience in construction, the ability to read plans, and strong communication and analytical skills to support site preparation and coordination with the crew and subcontractors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training in heavy equipment operation preferred.
• 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in a construction setting preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with crew and subcontractors.
• Analytical skills to review project data and identify improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Operate a skid steer safely and efficiently on asphalt paving and site development projects.
• Base preparation including grading, fine grading, trimming, and shaping aggregate base materials.
• Load, move, and distribute aggregate, millings, and other materials.
• Maintain equipment and perform basic repairs as needed.
• Coordinate with crew members and subcontractors to meet schedules and budgets.
• Provide on-the-job training to new operators as needed.
