Qualifications

Responsibilities

Salary Range: $24.00 To $28.00 Hourly

Job Summary

This position is devoted to successfully overseeing the many aspects of the outdoor operations related to Ski & Snowboard School lesson programs and guest experience at Bear Valley Mountain Resort. This role is primarily responsible for scheduling and motivating instructors to teach snow sports using the PSIA/AASI Teaching Model. The position requires working closely with other departments (Guest Services, Lesson Desk, Rentals etc) to ensure a positive guest experience, up to and including the lesson. The ideal candidate must possess a PSIA-AASI Level II or higher (or equivalent experience in a relevant field), enthusiasm and motivation for growing the sport, and excellent communication skills to serve as liaison between guests, instructors and management of all levels.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage lesson programs, including daily coordination with instructors and other supervisors
  • Create and confirm instructor schedules

  • Maintain lesson inventory based on demand and instructor availability
  • Maintain accurate field sheets for payroll
  • Accurate reporting of lessons including no-shows, special requests, and conflicts as necessary
  • Oversee site set-up, tear down, & clean-up of outdoor snow instructional area on a daily basis
  • Work with other S&SB School supervisors to schedule relevant ongoing training
  • Maintain Safety Meeting and safety topic records, including Training Logs
  • Report on product performance and feedback from instructors and guests
  • Assist with Performance Evaluations of instructors including regular lesson observation
  • Collaborate with supervisors to keep instructors informed of resort news and events, both Mountain and Village
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure instructors receive accurate role-related information
  • Available to teach lessons as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills and Competencies
  • PSIA-AASI Level II minimum with physical capability of skiing/riding at an advanced level in varied conditions (preferred)
  • PSIA-AASI additional certifications preferable, particularly Adaptive or Children's Specialist
  • Positive, flexible, solutions oriented and enthusiastic attitude
  • Advanced organizational, leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to create a student-centered curriculum based on the PSIA/AASI Teaching Model
  • Ability to provide training and feedback to instructors, coach for improvement
  • Knowledge and practice of The Code , as developed through NSAA
  • Ability to define facts, assess problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions
  • Competency in use of communication tools such as scheduling, sales and email applications
  • Competency in use of Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word and Excel (or similar)
Work Schedules

Weather, snow conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work schedule for Bear Valley Mountain Resort employees.

When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 24 to 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods - particularly the holiday periods in December, January and February – you may be expected to work additional hours and/or days.

You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you may be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy roads. The employee shuttle is available from select locations along highway 4 for return transport to and from work.

Working Conditions

At any time during the ski season, Bear Valley employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

Employees working inside can expect a noisy environment and frequent contact with guests and other resort employees.

Uniforms

A professional appearance at Bear Valley Mountain Resort is required, and some uniform items will be provided as part of your role, including light shirt/hoody, pants, jacket, hat and nametag. You will be required to provide some items as part of your job, including skis/snowboard, boots, gloves, helmet and eye protection – all in good condition and working order.
