Job summary

Bear Valley Ski Patrol is seeking dedicated personnel for on-mountain safety and first aid coverage. Responsibilities include providing care to guests, performing opening/closing procedures, and communicating with multiple departments to ensure a safe environment.

Candidates should have EMT/OEC (WEC accepted) and CPR certifications, excellent physical condition, and ability to operate in extreme weather. A strong safety focus and proactive problem-solving are essential.

Qualifications

• EMT or Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) preferred; Wilderness Emergency Care (WEC) accepted with patient contact experience.
• CPR certification required.
• Strong physical fitness suitable for skiing, hiking, lifting, and snow shoveling.
• Must be able to pass federal/state background checks for explosives use in avalanche mitigation.

Responsibilities

• Commitment to guest satisfaction and high service standards.

• Learn and apply ropes and rope-rescue techniques.

As a member of our Ski Patrol / First Aid team you'll be a part of a dedicated group of individuals dedicated to on mountain safety of all guests and providing first aid care and attention to guest needing assistance on the mountain and/or around the lodge facility

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide timely and accurate information concerning weather conditions, grooming or slope conditions and related information to help guest maximize their skiing experience
• Communicate problems to superiors, while showing initiative in handling routine matters
• Complete check off sheets and complete scenarios to full fill requirements for Ski Patrol

Skills and Competencies

• Positive attitude and enthusiasm
• Ability to read and to write legibly and to use good composition skills to complete records and report forms
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certificate preferred. Wilderness Emergency Care (WEC) accepted with patient contact experience
• CPR certification required
• Advanced skiing ability. The ability to safely and skillfully ski and transport a person in a toboggan down an expert ski trail in an expeditious manner within the ski area boundaries
• Ability to learn and be knowledgeable in the needs of the equipment and standard procedure for its care and safe operation
• Safe operation of a snowmobile in a variety of terrain and snow conditions
• Must be well groomed and present a good public image
• Good physical condition as this position requires skiing, hiking, shoveling, lifting, and carrying
• Willingness to work during extreme weather conditions
• Safety orientated
• Must be able to pass federal and state back ground checks for the use and handling of explosives for avalanche mitigation
• Must possess the desire to learn and be involved with a class A avalanche area and it’s mitigation practices

WorkSchedules

Weather, snow conditions and the number of guests play a large role intheworkscheduling of Bear Valley employees.

When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 40 up to 48 hours per week,including weekends and holidays. During busy periods – especially the holiday periods in December andthemonthsofJanuaryandFebruary–youmaybeexpectedtoworksix(6)daysa week.

You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive atyourdesignatedworkstation at the scheduled time.Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy road.

WorkingConditions

At any time during the ski season, Bear Valley employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

Uniforms

A professional appearance at Bear Valley is required. Please wear your name tag and uniform at all times during your scheduled shift. We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job. This uniform is for work hours ONLY, no exceptions.

You will be required to provide some items as part of your job.

The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work. All hats worn must have the Bear Valley logo while on shift.

The skiing/riding employee represents a model for safe skiing for both the guest and fellow employees. You are required to be aware of all safe skiing procedures, trail closures, and out-of-bounds policies of the mountain.
