Job summary

Sugarbush Resort in Vermont is seeking safety‑focused backcountry skiers to join our SkiMos coaching team. You’ll teach uphill travel and skinning techniques to young athletes within Sugarbush Ski & Ride School, in a program that values adventure and safety.

As a SkiMos coach, you’ll guide lessons on side-country terrain near Monroe Skyline and Slide Brook Basin, supervise children, and collaborate with a training team to grow your coaching skills.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Expert level with backcountry/side country, tree skiing and uphill travel.
• Experience teaching/coaching/mentoring or ski/snowboard instructor experience.
• Experience working with children.
• Spanish language knowledge is a plus.
• PSIA/AASI Level I–III preferred.
• USSA Certifications preferred.
• Available to work holidays and weekends.
• Mandatory on snow training.
• Ability to stand and walk on snow for extended periods and lift 50 lbs.
• Strong guest service skills and teamwork.
• Able to work in inclement mountain weather.
• Current certifications in Wilderness First Aid or related care.
• Experience with ski touring and touring gear.

Responsibilities

• Uphold safety on varied terrain in a mountain environment.
• Instruct assigned levels per the Instructor Guide.
• Supervise children during class including lunch and snack times.
• Clearly and accurately teach lessons and progressions.
• Provide a safe and fun learning environment through effective class handling.
• Assist with child loading on chairlifts following policy.
• Support program operations including registration, equipment fitting, and facility upkeep.
• Communicate lesson content and progress to guardians.
• Ensure children are returned to guardians and adhere to safety rules.

Sugarbush Ski & Ride School is seeking safety-focused backcountry skiers to join our coaching team inSkiMos, our unique children's backcountry skiing program. If you're passionate about earning your turns, finding the best snow on the mountain, and sharing your love of backcountry skiing with the next generation, we'd love to hear from you. As a SkiMos coach, you'll spend your days teaching young athletes essential uphill travel and skinning techniques while helping them refine your skiing skills. You'll guide students in safely exploring the incredible side-country terrain surrounding Monroe Skyline and Slide Brook Basin, building both their confidence and mountain awareness. This job's starting pay is $20/hour and increases after completed relevant instructing certifications.

Responsibilities

• Uphold the highest levels of safety on varied terrain in a mountain environment, with unpredictable winter weather conditions in a fast paced, potentially high-pressure environment.
• Arrive to work on time prepared for all duties.
• Attend morning meetings.
• Supervise and assist the children in your class at all times including during lunch and snack times.
• Clearly and accurately instruct assigned levels, physically and verbally, per the progressions in our Instructor Guide.
• Provide a safe and fun learning environment through exceptional class handling and creativity.
• Assist lift attendants to properly load and unload children on the chairlift, lifting children by the vest (if applicable) in accordance with our Kids on Lifts policy.
• Assist in operational responsibilities of children's programs including registration process, directing guests to appropriate equipment fitting source, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.
• Communicate child's lesson content and progress of the lesson with the identified guardian.
• Ensure the return of children to their identified guardians.
• Uphold Company guidelines and the Vermont Skier Safety Act rules and regulations.
  

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Must be expert level with backcountry/side country, tree skiing and uphill travel experienced skier/snowboarder, parallel or linking turns on groomed blue terrain.
• Previous experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring and/or previous ski or snowboard instructor experience.
• Experience working with children.
• Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus.
• PSIA/AASI Level I, Level II or Level III Certification is preferred.
• USSA Certifications preferred.
• Available to work holidays and weekends - calendar and scheduling requirements for new & returning staff.
• Successfully complete mandatory on snow training.
• Must be able to stand and walk on snow for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, squat and lift 50 lbs.
• Must have good guest service skills and work well in a team.
• Ability to work in inclement weather in a mountain environment.
• Current certifications in Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, or Outdoor Emergency Care required.
• Applicants must have experience of ski touring and have touring gear including climbing skins.
