Job summary

Sugarbush Resort is hiring ski and ride instructors for the winter season. The ideal candidate is at least 16, an intermediate skier/snowboarder, and has teaching or mentoring experience with children.

USSA/PSIA/ASI certifications are preferred, with opportunities to grow. Availability for holidays and weekends is required, with full- and part-time options and a focus on safety and guest satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Intermediate skier/snowboarder on groomed blue terrain.
• Experience teaching/coaching or mentoring and/or ski/snowboard instructor experience.
• Experience working with children.
• Spanish language a plus.
• PSIA/AASI Level I, II or III certification preferred.
• USSA certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Uphold safety on varied mountain terrain and winter conditions.
• Attend morning meetings and be on time.
• Supervise and assist children in class, including lunch and snack times.
• Instruct levels per the Instructor Guide with clear, accurate content.
• Create a safe and fun learning environment with engaging class handling.
• Assist lift attendants with loading/unloading children on the chairlift (Kids on Lifts policy).
• Support registration, equipment fitting directions, and maintenance of teaching areas and facilities.
• Communicate lesson content/progress with guardians and ensure children are returned to guardians.
• Follow Vermont Skier Safety Act guidelines and company policies.

Full and part-time availability with a minimum required schedule of 20 days for the winter season. This job starts at $18 per hour and increases with completed instructing certifications.Job Specifications:Skill Level: Non-Certified or CertifiedShift Availability: Full-TimeRESPONSIBILITIES :Uphold the highest levels of safety on varied terrain in a mountain environment, with unpredictable winter weather conditions in a fast paced, potentially high-pressure environment.Arrive to work on time prepared for all duties.Attend morning meetings.Supervise and assist the children in your class at all times including during lunch and snack times.Clearly and accurately instruct assigned levels, physically and verbally, per the progressions in our Instructor Guide.Provide a safe and fun learning environment through exceptional class handling and creativity.Assist lift attendants to properly load and unload children on the chairlift, lifting children by the vest (if applicable) in accordance with our Kids on Lifts policy.Assist in operational responsibilities of children’s programs including registration process, directing guests to appropriate equipment fitting source, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.Communicate child’s lesson content and progress of the lesson with the identified guardian.Ensure the return of children to their identified guardians.Uphold Company guidelines and the Vermont Skier Safety Act rules and regulations.QUALIFICATIONS :Must be at least 16 years old.Must be intermediate skier/snowboarder, parallel or linking turns on groomed blue terrain.Previous experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring and/or previous ski or snowboard instructor experience.Experience working with children.Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus.PSIA/AASI Level I, Level II or Level III Certification is preferred.USSA Certifications preferred.Prior ski racing, freestyle background is a plus.Considerations give to uncertified candidates with good skiing/riding skills, good communications skills, and enthusiasm for the sport with a passion for passing that on to others.Available to work holidays and weekends - calendar and scheduling requirements for new & returning staff.Successfully complete mandatory on snow training.Must be able to stand and walk on snow for extended periods of time.
