Job summary

Sugarbush Resort’s Ski and Ride School seeks enthusiastic instructors for the winter season. Join a top eastern program and work with passionate peers to teach guests of all ages on diverse terrain. Training opportunities help you grow personally and professionally, with a supportive team and a welcoming environment.

Full- and part-time schedules available, minimum 20 days this winter. Pay starts at $18/hour and increases with additional instructor certifications.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Intermediate skier/snowboarder on groomed blue terrain.
• Experience teaching/coaching/mentoring or previous ski/snowboard instructor experience.
• Experience working with children.
• Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus.
• PSIA/AASI Level I–III Certification is preferred.
• USSA Certifications preferred.
• Prior ski racing or freestyle background is a plus.
• Availability to work holidays and weekends.
• Able to stand/walk on snow for extended periods; bend, squat and lift 50 lbs.
• Strong guest-service skills and teamwork.
• Ability to work in inclement mountain weather.

Responsibilities

• Uphold safety on varied terrain in mountain conditions.
• Arrive on time prepared for duties.
• Attend morning meetings.
• supervise and assist children in your class, including lunch and snack times.
• Instruct assigned levels per the Instructor Guide, clearly and accurately.
• Provide a safe and fun learning environment through quality class handling and creativity.
• Assist lift attendants to load/unload children on the chairlift per policy.
• Assist in registration, equipment fitting, outdoor teaching areas upkeep, and facilities cleanliness.
• Communicate lesson content and progress with the guardian.
• Ensure the return of children to their identified guardians.
• Uphold Vermont Skier Safety Act rules and resort guidelines.

This job starts at $18 per hour and increases with completed instructing certifications.Job Specifications:Skill Level: Non-Certified or CertifiedShift Availability: Full-TimeRESPONSIBILITIES :Uphold the highest levels of safety on varied terrain in a mountain environment, with unpredictable winter weather conditions in a fast paced, potentially high-pressure environment.Arrive to work on time prepared for all duties.Attend morning meetings.Supervise and assist the children in your class at all times including during lunch and snack times.Clearly and accurately instruct assigned levels, physically and verbally, per the progressions in our Instructor Guide.Provide a safe and fun learning environment through exceptional class handling and creativity.Assist lift attendants to properly load and unload children on the chairlift, lifting children by the vest (if applicable) in accordance with our Kids on Lifts policy.Assist in operational responsibilities of children’s programs including registration process, directing guests to appropriate equipment fitting source, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.Communicate child’s lesson content and progress of the lesson with the identified guardian.Ensure the return of children to their identified guardians.Uphold Company guidelines and the Vermont Skier Safety Act rules and regulations.QUALIFICATIONS :Must be at least 16 years old.Must be intermediate skier/snowboarder, parallel or linking turns on groomed blue terrain.Previous experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring and/or previous ski or snowboard instructor experience.Experience working with children.Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus.PSIA/AASI Level I, Level II or Level III Certification is preferred.USSA Certifications preferred.Prior ski racing, freestyle background is a plus.Considerations give to uncertified candidates with good skiing/riding skills, good communications skills, and enthusiasm for the sport with a passion for passing that on to others.Available to work holidays and weekends - calendar and scheduling requirements for new & returning staff.Successfully complete mandatory on snow training.Must be able to stand and walk on snow for extended periods of time.
