Job summary

The Rinks is hiring a Skating Instructor to teach group skating classes and support Learn-to-Skate programs at on-site facilities in Anaheim, CA. You will follow the official Learn-to-Skate USA curriculum and contribute to shows and events while embodying our values.

We seek candidates with figure skating experience, PSA/USFS credentials, and strong communication skills who can promote skating programs and provide excellent guest service.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Experience in figure skating including competitive/show/coaching is preferred.
  • Knowledge of US Figure Skating, Learn to Skate USA and PSA.
  • LTS/USFS membership or coach compliance required for certain roles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • The position is on-site at The Rinks facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct group skating classes in various formats (Learn-to-Skate, Home School, community classes, events, camps).
  • Follow the Learn-to-Skate USA curriculum and attend PowerPlay sessions if applicable.
  • Assist in producing and promoting facility shows and competitions.
  • Provide constructive feedback to skaters and maintain professional conduct.
  • Meet company standards and communicate program information to guests.
  • Promote The Rinks values and growth of skating programs and sport.

Pay Details

The starting hourly rate for this position is $33.00 per hour.

This position is responsible for teaching skating skills in groups, supporting company or facility events, and promoting The Rinks while embodying the company’s values and mission.

Responsibilities
  • Instruct group classes in various formats, including our Learn-to-Skate Program, Home School Program, community classes, facility and company-sponsored events, figure skating camps, etc.
  • Follow the facility’s Learn-to-Skate curriculum (based on U.S. Figure Skating’s “Learn to Skate USA” model) and agree to attend PowerPlay sessions if teaching LTS or other Group Classes (Academy)
  • Assist in the production and promotion of facility shows and competitions
  • Provide positive, constructive feedback when evaluating skaters
  • Maintain a professional and ethical approach to a growing clientele
  • Meet all company standards and comply with instructor guidelines
  • Interact with customers in a welcoming and professional manner while promoting The Rinks’ values
  • Communicate facility and company program information to guests and support the company’s pursuit of excellence in all areas of figure skating, hockey, and recreational skating
  • Provide recommendations for skater advancement through the programs offered in The Rinks facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred but not required
  • Experience in the sport of figure skating, including competitive history, show experience, and/or coaching experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. Figure Skating, Learn to Skate USA, and the Professional Skaters Association
  • Actively pursuing education opportunities within the sport and has a PSA Basic Accreditation or USFS Level 1 Coach Accreditation
  • For an LTS Instructor and Junior Instructor (no private lessons): Has current Learn To Skate USA Instructor Membership OR current USFS Coach Compliance and Membership
  • For Skating Instructors (private lessons): Has current U.S. Figure Skating Coach Compliance (See U.S. Figure Skating website for a list of requirements)
  • Present a consistent, professional, motivating, and enthusiastic teaching style and able to direct a class efficiently using time management skills
  • Passionate about growing the sport of figure skating and involved in the growth of the sport
  • Is a service-minded, self-starter who is highly motivated and possesses characteristics of energy, enthusiasm, assertiveness, drive, and a sense of fun
  • Must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication (verbal & written) skills, including enjoying interacting with guests and creating a welcoming environment for skaters
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals with varied personalities and at different levels
  • Able to maintain accurate records
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and early mornings/evenings
  • Able to communicate The Rinks vision and commitment to quality service, products, and entertainment
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Education - High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certifications Required – Learn to Skate Membership or US Figure Skating Coach Compliance
  • Experience Required - 0-1 Year
  • This position is on-site.

The Rinks Development Program launched in 2009, and consists of seven local hockey and skating facilities throughout Southern California: six ice rinks - Anaheim Ice, Lakewood Ice, KHS Ice, Yorba Linda Ice, Poway Ice and Great Park Ice, as well as one inline facility - Irvine Inline. The Rinks offer a variety of hockey and skating programs for participants of all ages and ability levels. The Rinks is home to thousands of youth and adult hockey players as well as recreational skaters to competitive Olympic figure skaters.
