The Rinks is seeking a Hockey Instructor, Level 1 to join our team in Anaheim. The role focuses on on-ice coaching, skill development, and delivering a fun, safe guest experience for players of all ages.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years of hockey experience, must hold USA Hockey certification, and be able to skate and handle light lifting. The position offers a starting pay of $21 per hour with opportunities to grow within our programs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • USA Hockey Level 1 or 2 coaching credential required.
  • Safe Sport certification and CAHA state requirements.
  • 1–2 years hockey experience required.
  • Must be able to ice skate and lift up to 25 pounds during on-ice activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Learn to Play Hockey on- and off-ice activities (check-in, gear assistance, rink setup).
  • Teach skill development stations for Hockey Development programs.
  • Support all Rinks hockey programs including clinics and practices.
  • Be a positive ambassador for hockey and The Rinks.
  • Assist at multiple programs (Initiation, Learn to Play, Score a Goal, Little Ducks, camps).
  • Arrive 30 minutes before sessions; prepare to go on ice 15 minutes before start.
  • Meet with Head Hockey Coach/Instructor before sessions to review on-ice plan.
  • Interact with players and parents prior to going on the ice.
  • Assist with ice setup and equipment like pucks and nets.
  • Set development standard with positive reinforcement.
  • Stay with assigned stations and keep groups organized.
  • Familiarize with Next Steps programs.
  • Ensure interactions are fun and productive.
  • Attend monthly Power Play team-building sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Title:

Hockey Instructor, Level 1

Pay Details:

The starting hourly rate for this position is $21.00 per hour.

The Rinks develops hockey programs within our local area and beyond. Our program’s success begins with providing our guests with a great experience at our facilities.

Hockey Instructors are the instrumental staff responsible for upholding our Rinks standards while making the guest experience great. Hockey Instructors should be dynamic, keep players engaged, organized, and safe, and ensure that the players have fun.

Hockey Instructors, Level 1 are responsible for assisting on and off the ice and teaching at skill development stations for all Hockey Development programs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Learn to Play Hockey programming on and off-ice activities, including check-in, assisting players with gear, rink supplies set up, and other assigned duties

  • Assist Hockey Initiation programs, including teaching skill development stations

  • Support all Rinks hockey programs and assist skill development for all assigned Rinks programs, including rec-league clinics and practices

  • Be a positive ambassador for the sport of hockey and The Rinks

  • Hockey Coaches/Instructors are responsible for assisting at Hockey Initiation, Ducks Learn to Play Hockey, Score a Goal, Little Ducks, Hockey Camps, and coach Rink teams as assigned

  • Hockey Instructors should be at the Rink at least 30 minutes before scheduled sessions and be ready to go onto the ice 15 minutes before players take the ice

  • Meet with the Head Hockey Coach/ Instructor before scheduled sessions to review on ice plan

  • Interact with players and parents before taking the ice

  • Assist with ice set up, pucks, nets, etc.

  • Set a standard for development by using positive reinforcement when coaching

  • Stop and teach, be present and friendly, interact with all participants, and make it fun

  • Stay with your assigned skill station and keep the group organized

  • Be familiar with Rinks “Next Steps” Programs

  • Make sure all interactions with players are fun and productive

  • Attend monthly Rinks “Power Play” team building sessions

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Minimum 18 years of age

  • Must have 3 years of hockey experience

  • Can demonstrate on-ice hockey skills

  • Meet all USA Hockey and CAHA screening requirements and hold a Level 1 or 2 USA Hockey coaching credential

  • Must be able to ice skate and lift and carry up to 25 pounds while skating

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong leadership skills

  • Able to excel in a team atmosphere

  • Demonstrate a fun, energetic, and outgoing personality

  • Organized; can multi-task and solve problems in a fast-paced work environment

  • Flexible schedule; must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required

  • Team player who enjoys working in a team environment

  • Have knowledge and a clear understanding of the USA Hockey American Development Model Association Program (ADM)

  • Possess a valid driver’s license, automobile liability insurance, and a good driving record

  • Customer service oriented

  • Previous marketing and promotional event experience preferred

  • Hardworking, detail-oriented, and results-oriented

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Education - High School Diploma or Equivalent
