Job summary

Great Hearts Academies in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Sixth Grade Science Teacher to deliver the Great Hearts curriculum with rigor and care. You will design engaging lessons, monitor student progress, and partner with families to support learning.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree, US work authorization, and a commitment to the mission of classical liberal arts education. This is a salaried-exempt, on-site position with opportunities for professional development and growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required for lead teaching role.
  • TxDPS background clearance is required.
  • US Work Authorization is required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom.
  • Provide appropriate academic support to students and monitor progress, partnering with leadership to address needs.
  • Uphold policies and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures.
  • Communicate clearly with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering home-school partnerships.
  • Participate in faculty collaboration, school events, and ongoing professional growth.

About Upper School Teachers

Great Hearts teachers guide students in a variety of subjects across grades 6-12, including Humanities, Math, Science, Fine Arts, Languages, and Physical Education. Teachers lead students through intelligence, charisma, humor, moral integrity and example—in short, through love and friendship. Ultimately, our teachers strive to cultivate the minds and hearts of students in the wonder-filled pursuit of truth, beauty and goodness.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
  • Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner.
  • Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships.
  • Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.
Required/Preferred Education
  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree is required for a lead teaching role
  • Certification is not required for general education
  • Candidates must pass a TxDPS background clearance.
  • All majors are welcome to apply!
  • US Work Authorization is required.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
  • Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
