Job summary

Great Hearts Academies in Live Oak, TX seeks an Earth Science Teacher starting in October. The teacher will deliver the Great Hearts curriculum to grades 6–12, fostering a joyful, orderly classroom and supporting students' academic progress while modeling culture and safety.

You will communicate with families, collaborate with school leadership, and engage in ongoing professional growth within a mission-driven community that values Truth, Goodness and Beauty.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required for lead teaching role
  • US work authorization required
  • TxDPS background clearance and fingerprinting required
  • All majors welcome to apply
  • Certification not required for general education

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned Earth Science classes using the Great Hearts curriculum, preparing thoughtful lessons and maintaining an orderly, joyful classroom
  • Provide academic support, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address needs
  • Uphold and model Great Hearts culture, policies, and safety procedures, including dress code and conduct
  • Communicate clearly with families and initiate conferences as needed to foster home–school partnerships
  • Participate in the life of the academy through collaboration, events, duties, and ongoing professional growth

About Upper School Teachers:

Great Hearts teachers guide students in a variety of subjects across grades 6-12, including Humanities, Math, Science, Fine Arts, Languages, and Physical Education. Teachers lead students through intelligence, charisma, humor, moral integrity and example—in short, through love and friendship. Ultimately, our teachers strive to cultivate the minds and hearts of students in the wonder-filled pursuit of truth, beauty and goodness.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
  • Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner.
  • Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships.
  • Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.
Required/Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree is required for a lead teaching role
  • Certification is not required for general education
  • Candidates must pass a TxDPS background clearance.
  • All majors are welcome to apply!
  • US Work Authorization is required.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
  • Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
