Placements24 is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join their on-site team in Welkom, South Africa. You will design, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure, focusing on automation, monitoring, and proactive issue resolution.

You will collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure reliable deployments and optimized performance, with on-call rotation as needed.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as SRE/DevOps or Systems Admin focused on infrastructure.
• Experience with Linux/Windows, networking, virtualization and cloud environments.
• Scripting in Python/Bash/PowerShell; IaC with Terraform and Ansible.
• On-site Welkom and on-call rotation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and manage scalable IT infrastructure including servers, networks and cloud environments.
• Develop automation tools and deployment scripts for operational tasks.
• Implement monitoring and alerting to proactively identify issues.
• Conduct root cause analysis for outages and durable fixes.
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure reliable deployments.
• Manage on-prem hardware and network components for performance.
• Participate in capacity planning and performance tuning.
• Document infrastructure and standard operating procedures.
• Respond to incidents with timely resolution and post-incident review.

About the Role

This role is critical for ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of our client's core IT infrastructure and systems. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the systems that run their applications, focusing on automation, monitoring, and proactive issue resolution. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in systems administration, cloud technologies, and software development practices, with a passion for infrastructure optimization. You will work collaboratively with development and operations teams to implement best practices for reliability and operational excellence. This is a hands-on role requiring on-site presence to manage critical hardware and network components. Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage robust and scalable IT infrastructure solutions, including servers, networks, and cloud environments.
• Develop and deploy automation tools and scripts to streamline operational tasks, such as deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
• Implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and address potential issues before they impact users.
• Conduct root cause analysis for system outages and performance degradations, implementing permanent solutions to prevent recurrence.
• Collaborate with software development teams to ensure the reliability and deployability of new applications and features.
• Manage and maintain on-premises hardware, ensuring optimal performance and security.
• Participate in capacity planning and performance tuning to meet growing demands.
• Develop and maintain clear documentation for infrastructure, systems, and operational procedures.
• Respond to critical incidents and outages, providing timely resolution and post-incident analysis.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Systems Administrator with a strong focus on infrastructure.
• In-depth knowledge of operating systems (Linux/Windows), networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP), and virtualization technologies.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Strong understanding of monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios) and logging systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts clearly.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Willingness to work on-site in Welkom and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
