Job summary

Precision Group in Hobbs, NM is seeking a Site Radiation Safety Officer to lead radiation safety in oil and gas operations. You will develop and maintain safety programs, conduct site surveys, monitor exposures, and train personnel on protective equipment and procedures.

You will work with regulators and internal teams to ensure compliance with NRC, EPA, and OSHA standards, manage records, and coordinate incident response.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Radiation Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is required.
• Certification as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or equivalent credential is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in radiation safety, ideally in oil & gas or mining industries.
• Strong knowledge of NRC, EPA, OSHA regulations and associated compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with radiation detection instruments and monitoring techniques.
• Experience with data management software and radiation safety information systems.

About the Role:

The Site Radiation Safety Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe handling, use, and disposal of radioactive materials and radiation-emitting devices within oil and gas extraction and mining operations. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining radiation safety programs that comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The officer will conduct regular site inspections, monitor radiation levels, and provide training and guidance to personnel to minimize radiation exposure risks. They serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders regarding radiation safety matters. Ultimately, this role ensures a safe working environment that protects employees, the public, and the environment from radiation hazards while supporting operational efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Radiation Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
