Fairfax County is seeking an Assistant Division Director for Land Development Services. This role involves overseeing engineering staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing project management practices. Ideal candidates will have a strong engineering background and leadership experience.

Land Development Services (LDS) is the steward of the county's land development and building construction codes and regulations. Its staff members embrace their essential role as "first preventers" by reviewing, permitting, and inspecting site and building construction daily to protect the health, safety, welfare, and environment of Fairfax County residents, workers, and visitors.
Our department also plays a crucial role in economic development, reviewing over 30,000 building and site plan submissions, issuing nearly 70,000 permits, and conducting over 220,000 inspections annually. Under senior leadership, this position serves as an assistant division director overseeing staff performing complex engineering work with broad impacts on public safety. Responsibilities include regulatory compliance, planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordination. The role manages multiple teams of Engineers V, IV, and other professionals.
This position provides guidance to the site review team, promotes effective project management, develops technical expertise among reviewers, and ensures public safety. It involves establishing streamlined procedures, managing process improvements, and acting as the lead product owner for the Planning and Land Use System (PLUS) related to site review. The role also requires evaluating complex code compliance issues, fostering stakeholder relationships, reviewing budgets, and promoting exceptional customer service.
The candidate must pass criminal background, driving record, and credit checks. The position is essential personnel and requires reporting during emergencies.
Ability to drive, operate equipment, perform site visits, with or without accommodations.
