Job description

Full-Time / Regular

$17.52 - $24.52 Hourly

The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers — to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities.

Through our talented staff and “LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth), we are committed to a people‑first approach that fosters trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all.

The South Shore YMCA is seeking a Site Coordinator who will play a critical role in the successful operation of the Community School Program at P.S. 31. The Site Coordinator will provide leadership, oversight, and support, and ensure quality program execution. Through strong relationships with the branch, staff, family, community, and the school, the Site Coordinator will work toward accomplishing the program’s vision and goals, providing a safe, positive environment for school‑age children and opportunities for learning, interaction, and academic or personal growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well‑being of participants by providing close supervision of all activities.
  • Understand, maintain, and ensure that staff and participants follow Risk Management and safety procedures. Report all incidents in accordance with Y policies and procedures.
  • Manage the day‑to‑day operations of the Community School program.
  • Coordinate with the school in assessing needs and address how those needs can be met.
  • Participate in regular school meetings, including SLT and Attendance Meetings.
  • Assist the Youth & Family Director in leading and overseeing the Community School program.
  • Assist the Youth & Family Director with supervising Counselors and Activity Specialists by monitoring performance, providing support, coaching and recognition, and holding staff accountable for performance expectations.
  • Work with Counselors to plan and implement meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events.
  • Prepare the learning environment, lessons, and necessary supplies for program activities. Assume responsibility for cleanliness and organization of the room, program supplies, and activity space.
  • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity of all staff and participants and creates a positive program spirit.
  • Create and maintain a strength‑based, youth‑focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
  • Support the planning of all Community School activities, including ELT activities, family workshops, school events, Spring Forum.
  • Observe and assess the individual needs of participants and handle student‑related issues.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation (participant files, staff files, data entry, attendance, behavior/incident/accident reports, sign‑in/out sheets, and licensing requirements).
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information, including compiling program statistics.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with school stakeholders and parents/guardians through regular communication.
  • Support the development and facilitation of required pre‑program training sessions.
  • Actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
  • Adhere to all Community School Office, Department of Education, Department of Health, YMCA of Greater New York, and funder standards, expectations, and regulations.
  • Understand and communicate the YMCA’s core values and goals to participants and caregivers.
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants.
