Job summary

San Diego Housing Commission is seeking a Site Cleaner to service SDHC properties across the East, West, and North regions of San Diego. The role reports to a Property Manager and requires independence with strong communication and basic computer skills for reporting.

Daily tasks include cleaning, safety reporting, and maintaining the appearance of assigned properties. Candidates should be self-starters with attention to detail and strong customer service abilities.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade and minimum six (6) months experience in cleaning and maintaining building interiors/exteriors.
• Ability to safely, effectively use and operate hand tools and user-moved aids.
• Must understand and follow oral and written instructions, communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of assigned SDHC properties.
• Perform custodial duties such as cleaning and reporting maintenance issues and safety violations.
• Walk properties regularly to detect unsafe conditions and report them.
• Assist in keeping grounds neat and free of litter, rake, sweep, and shovel as needed.
• Ensure storage areas are locked when not in use.

About the Department:

The Real Estate Operations division contains theProperty Management(PM)andAsset Management(AM) departments. Together the Property and Asset Management departments are responsible for effectively and strategically managing over 2,200 units scattered across over 150 properties.

About the Position:

The Site Cleaner is an onsite position who will serve properties in the East, West and North regions of San Diego and will report to a Property Manager. This position is critical for SDHC owned properties as the Site Cleaner will serve as an ambassador and demonstrate to residents how the properties should be maintained. The incumbent will work independently most of the time but will report issues and concerns to the assigned supervisor. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, exercise discretion, possesses excellent communication and customer service skills, pay attention to detail, as well as, possessing basic computer skills to complete reports.

Daily tasks include custodial duties such as cleaning and reporting of maintenance issues and safety violations. The incumbent will be required to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of assigned SDHC properties.

Class Characteristics:

This is a journey-level class in the maintenance series that performs routine site cleaning services to ensure

San Diego Housing Commission properties are in clean and functioning order for the residents. Incumbents are responsible for performing maintenance on Commission housing units, buildings, and facilities.

Examples of Essential Job Functions:

The primary responsibilities of the Site Cleaner involves the upkeep of the properties in order to enhance and maintain curb appeal. The Site Cleaner will also assist the staff, as directed, in their efforts to manage the properties in an efficient manner.

• Maintains awareness of proper safety precautions at all times.
• Constantly observe condition of properties throughout the community and immediately reports and/or initiates action to correct unsafe conditions.
• Ensure that storage areas always remain locked when not in use.
• Physically walk properties on a frequent basis and removes litter, debris, cigarette butts and pet droppings from the grounds.
• Transfer trash and other items left outside of dumpster area into dumpster. Pick-up and sweep area.
• Keep dumpster/compactor doors closed.
• Details properties on a regular basis. Cleans and rakes shrub areas; shovels mud when necessary.
• Use blower to keep sidewalks and walking areas clean of loose grass and brush.
• Helps clean and maintain storage shop areas.
• Performs work area clean-up and safety related duties.
• Assists in keeping grounds neat and free of litter. Rakes, sweeps, shovels as circumstances warrant.

Education & Experience:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and minimum six (6) months experience in the same or similar positions of cleaning and maintaining building interiors/exteriors.

Licenses and Certifications:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.

Physical Demands:

Must possess mobility to work in and around Commission buildings and facilities, to operate a motor vehicle and drive on surface streets; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, to climb and descend ladders, and to operate varied hand and power tools and equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.

Environmental Elements:

Employees work in and around buildings and facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
