Job summary

Ashland School District 5 is seeking an Educational Assistant to support licensed teachers at Bellview Elementary. This 0.875 FTE position involves assisting with instructional activities, data collection, and clerical duties in a setting that serves students with diverse needs.

The role requires collaboration with staff, effective communication, and adherence to district policies. Experience with IDEA and a background in education are preferred; probationary status applies.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or one to two years' related experience and/or training.
• Must meet current No Child Left Behind requirements.
• Prior successful experience working in a school setting or with children strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of instructional practices related to the assignment and familiarity with IDEA, or the ability to quickly learn its requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in planning and implementation of learning experiences for students; confers with teacher to provide feedback on student performance in tutorial and testing activities.
• Interpreting individualized education programs and related instructional plans, within guidelines set by certificated teacher, and develops specific lesson and tutorial strategies based on knowledge of student aptitude.
• Instructing students in small group and individual settings, often without direct teacher oversight; revises lesson plan or teaching strategy during instructional activity as necessary to achieve IEP goals and objectives.
• Conducting extensive student testing using prescribed test batteries; informs teacher of any unusual academic or disciplinary problems.
• Helping students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; promotes safety of the students by helping them develop self-confidence.
