Job description

Temporary Part-Time Position, 2 vacant positions
Work Schedule: Monday & Saturday 8:15am-4:45pm
POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting with the overall operations of the Solid Waste Management site, including assisting the public, completing required documentation, operating weigh scales, maintaining the site, and ensuring it remains tidy and in order.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)
  1. Operate electronic weigh scales - assess and collect tippage fees.
  2. Complete all required landfill and transfer station documentation, compost logs, daily disposal sheets, etc.
  3. Deal effectively and professionally with customers and contractors in a positive and courteous manner, including conflict resolution.
  4. Manage and remove contaminants from divertible materials.
  5. Operate Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot, including accepting materials from customers and appropriately placing or bulking materials within the HHW depot.
  6. Operate computer, scales, and debit/credit machines; troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  7. Operate small equipment (e.g., skid steer, lawn mower, weed eater, tire de-rimmer, snow blower).
  8. Direct customers to place incoming waste in appropriate diversion areas on site.
  9. Maintain, clean, and package all diversion areas, including but not limited to clean wood, contaminated wood, brush, compost, metal, tires, drywall, shingles, blue box materials/cardboard, HHW and electronics, mattresses, and organics.
  10. Perform grounds maintenance and clean-up, including grass cutting, litter picking, and snow removal.
  11. Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  12. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Good writing, mathematical, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer experience in a Windows environment is an asset.
  • Must be courteous when dealing with the public.
  • Must be willing to work Saturdays regularly.
  • Must possess a valid G Class Driver’s license.
  • Must provide own transportation to and from site(s).
  • Criminal Records Check less than six (6) months old at the time of hire.
EXPERIENCE
  • Knowledge of waste management facilities and practices.
  • Experience dealing with the public.
EFFORT
  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg.
  • Walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, climbing, carrying, and pulling items.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent exposure to inclement weather, garbage, noise, foul odors, extreme temperatures, dust, and dirt.

Salary Grade: $26.02 - $27.11
