Job summary

Northern VA Community College is seeking a part-time Simulation Lab Technician to support simulation operations in the nursing program. You will configure, test, and run clinical scenarios with faculty, maintain A/V and mannequin systems, and help integrate EHR data into simulations.

You will work evenings or weekends as needed, collaborate with instructors, and contribute to ongoing program improvements. Prior lab experience and familiarity with multimedia equipment are valued.

Responsibilities

• Serve as simulator operator by programming, testing and running scenarios with faculty instructors.
• Participate in event and scenario planning meetings to provide technical expertise on equipment capabilities.
• Understand various simulator technologies from mannequins to screen-based simulations and VR simulators.
• Maintain and repair computerized mannequins (software/hardware).
• Assist with EHR integration and electronic documentation within simulations.
• Provide feedback on facility, technology and equipment needs to the Manager.
• Assist with special projects or initiatives as needed.
• Collect data to support research and projects as appropriate.

Job Description:

Under the direction and supervision of the Dean of Nursing and Simulation Center Manager, the individual will provide technical support for all simulation operations. Technician is primarily responsible for integrating, maintaining and operating the computer and audio/video (A/V) technology including the mannequin and surrounding simulation lab equipment. This position supports Inter-Professional Education (IPE), immersive simulation experiences, and other scheduled patient simulation learning activities.

Duties and Tasks:

• Serve as simulator operator by programming, testing and running scenarios with faculty instructors, ensuring that the facility and equipment are set up for teaching sessions.
• Participate in event and scenario planning meetings to provide technical expertise on capabilities and limitations of equipment and facilities to meet course needs.
• Understand the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators and virtual reality surgical simulators.
• Responsible for maintenance and repair of computerized mannequins (software and hardware).
• Integration of an Electronic Health Record (EHR) and electronic documentation of patient care into the simulated experiences (as opposed to paper documentation)
• Provide communication and feedback to the Manager on facility, technology, equipment operational and other needs identified for overall maintenance and program functioning.
• Assist with other special projects or initiatives as needed.
• Collect data to support research and commercial projects as appropriate.
• Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty instructors, students, and clients of the Simulation Center.
• Engage in available opportunities to share information and best practices externally (e.g., as presenter or panelist at industry conferences and events), develop and maintain relationships with simulation specialists to engage in collaborative problem solving and innovation.
• Identify and participate in coordination of facility and operational improvement.
• Actively participate in strategic action plan and program improvement initiatives.
• Assist with or lead other special projects or initiatives as needed.
• Utilizing and maintaining medical equipment such as IV pumps, ventilators, standard defibrillators, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs.)
• Preparing and applying moulage - simulated injuries, wounds, bruising - to standardized patients and simulators

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.Must be able to independently move equipment (less than 25 lbs.) and move manikins (less than 50 lbs.) with the assistance of others.

Minimum Work Experience:

• Experience in MS software applications including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience in a medical or clinical simulation lab setting.
• Experience in lab equipment maintenance.
