Qualifications

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and analytical skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, update, and monitor simulation lab policies, procedures, use, and operation.
  • Maintain lab inventory and safe storage/disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Monitor standards of lab cleanliness and ensure equipment maintenance.
  • Manage simulation lab budget and provide recommendations.
  • Design and implement clinical simulation activities aligned with nursing courses.
  • Plan and teach faculty development programs for simulation education.
  • Facilitate hands-on skills practice and support clinical coursework and care plans.
  • Perform assessment and data analysis to evaluate learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with community partners for inter-professional simulation activities.

Simulation Clinical Faculty Position

Sauk Valley Community College, a comprehensive community college located in a picturesque rural setting, invites applications from innovative individuals for a Simulation Clinical Faculty position.

Located in rural northwestern Illinois, along the scenic Rock River between the cities of Dixon and Sterling, the College is one hour from Rockford and the Quad Cities and two hours west of Chicago.

Policy, Operations & Facility Management
  • Develop, implement, update, and monitor simulation lab policies, procedures, use, and operation.
  • Maintain lab inventory, ensure safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Monitor and assure appropriate standards of lab cleanliness, provide for equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement.
  • Manage and provide recommendations related to the simulation lab budget.
Curriculum Design & Simulation Activities
  • Design and implement clinical simulation activities in alignment with the content of each nursing course to enhance clinical competency and readiness for patient care.
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of specific nursing skills-based training and the evaluation process. Plan, implement and teach faculty development programs relevant to simulation education and program student learning outcomes.
  • Create and maintain a respectful and professional working environment, incorporating active learning, reflective thinking, and a confidential debriefing process. Promote critical thinking, clinical judgement and professionalism.
  • Continually update and refine lab and simulation experiences based on identified needs.
Teaching, Instruction & Student Support
  • Orient instructors in lab procedures, location and use of materials, and operation of equipment.
  • Serve as a resource for students and faculty.
  • Oversee students during direct patient care rotations at healthcare partner sites.
  • Teach nursing curriculum theory courses as needed.
  • Facilitate hands‑on skills practice, supports dosage calculation competency, assists with clinical coursework, care plans and related assignments.
Assessment & Continuous Improvement
  • Perform assessment and data analysis to evaluate learning lab and simulation activities and outcomes.
  • Participate on committees related to curriculum design and/or performance assessment from the simulation/lab/clinical perspective.
Strategy, Collaboration & Administration
  • Collaborate with community partners in the development and implementation of inter‑professional simulation activities as directed.
  • Develop, in cooperation with the supervisor, annual goals for the simulation lab.
  • Work closely with college faculty; assuring appropriate integration of simulation and lab activities, to maximize utilization and moderate costs.
  • Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Must be able to maintain a safe, organized and effective clinical learning environment, promoting student engagement and confidence.
Physical & Operational Requirements
  • Must be physically able to demonstrate and assist in the lab and clinical setting.
  • Must be able to work evenings as required.
Education & Licensure
  • Master’s degree in nursing; licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a registered nurse in Illinois; at least two-year’s experience in simulation facilitation or clinical education, and recent medical‑surgical experience. Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification desired or willing to obtain within 2 years.
Technical & Laboratory Capabilities
  • Ability to prepare and organize simulation laboratory activities, utilize advanced technical simulation and lab equipment, and communicate that knowledge to others as appropriate.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Pedagogy & Instructional Development
  • Knowledge of alternative teaching/learning options, curriculum design and evaluation, and ability to contribute to instructional vitality and growth of the simulation laboratory.
Adaptability & Instructional Alignment
  • Ability to anticipate and effectively adapt to changes in program requirements and methodology; and work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. Evidence of support for the mission of a comprehensive community college.
