Job summary

Cisco Systems, Inc. seeks an Optics Reliability/Component Engineer to develop and qualify next‑gen Silicon Photonics and laser supply technologies.

You will bridge design and manufacturing to ensure the highest reliability standards, collaborating with lab teams and cross‑functional partners across the organization. The role emphasizes DOEs, reliability planning, and data-driven design improvements, leveraging SEM/EDX/CSAM and SR332 calculations to drive revenue‑impacting decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.
• 3+ years in optical component technologies, interconnect quality, and reliability testing methodologies.
• Experience executing full device qualification plans, including test setups, fault finding, and hardware debugging.
• Knowledge of DFMEA and statistical tools for evaluating process/design reliability (e.g., FIT rates, MTBF).
• Experience with environmental stress testing (shock, vibration, ESD, dust, gas mixtures).

Responsibilities

• Drive and execute Silicon Photonics and laser qualification and reliability studies with lab personnel.
• Evaluate new designs for failure modes; develop qualification and reliability plans.
• Design DOEs and stress tests for next-gen designs.
• Quantify reliability attributes and lead cross-functional issue resolution with mitigation plans.
• Use SEM, EDX, CSAM, X-ray to interpret data and drive design improvements.
• Rationalize technical decisions impacting revenue, customers, and suppliers.
