Silicon Photonics Design Engineer - Biophotonics

Location: Cupertino, California, United States | Department: Hardware

Description

Apple is seeking a Photonics Design Engineer to contribute to the research and development of innovative integrated photonics devices for sensing applications. You will collaborate within an optical science team and across disciplines to develop new photonic components and sensor concepts. Your responsibilities include designing, simulating, and characterizing silicon photonic components to advance photonic integrated circuits.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
• Experience in simulation and modeling of photonic components

Preferred Qualifications

• Over 3 years of relevant industry experience
• Master’s or PhD in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
• Deep understanding of optoelectronics, photonics, and semiconductor devices
• Extensive experience in designing and modeling passive and active components on SOI platforms and circuit-level simulations
• Proficiency in multiphysics simulations including environmental factors such as electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical stresses
• Experience with optical measurement techniques and device characterization
• Strong programming skills and familiarity with data analysis tools like Python, Matlab, JMP
• Excellent communication and presentation skills

Additional Information

The base salary range for this role is $143,100 to $264,200, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, retirement plans, employee stock programs, educational reimbursement, and more. This role may also be eligible for bonuses, commissions, and relocation assistance.
