Job summary

City of Round Rock is seeking a Signs and Markings Technician under general supervision to install and maintain traffic signs and pavement markings for the city. The role includes fabrication, installation, and upkeep of signs to MUTCD standards, use of Traffic Cad software, and maintenance of streets markings.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 1 year in a construction-related field, and a Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days; IMSA certifications are also required

Responsibilities

• Fabricates, installs, and maintains signs using Traffic Cad software; installs bases/poles; replaces signs per reflectometer test; adheres to MUTCD standards; replaces graffiti signs; repairs damaged signs.
• Installs and maintains pavement markings with a thermal or paint machine; stripes lanes; maintains city facilities parking areas; installs delineators and raised pavement markers.
• Handles special projects by collecting data for engineers and surveys; collects vehicle/pedestrian counts.
• Conducts traffic monitoring to measure the effectiveness of improvements.

Job description

Under general supervision of the Signs and Markings Technician installs and maintains traffic signs and pavement markings for the city.

Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.

• Fabricates, installs, and maintain signs by using Traffic Cad software; installs crash worthiness bases or sign poles; replaces signs that fail the reflectometer test; installs signs to state, city, and MUTCD standards; replaces graffiti signs; repairs signs that have been knocked down.

• Installs and maintains pavement markings with a thermal or paint machine by installing performed thermal symbols; grinds lane lines for removal or relocation purposes; stripe fire lanes and no parking lanes; maintains all city facilities parking areas; installs delineators; installs raised pavement markers.

• Handles special projects by installing traffic analysis equipment by collecting and downloading data for the engineer; surveys neighborhoods; collects vehicle and pedestrian volume counts.

• Conducts all traffic monitoring functions required to measure the effectiveness of traffic improvements.

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Some college preferred.

• One (1) year of experience in a construction related field. Signs and markings experience preferred.

• Possession of a Class A Commercial Texas Driver's License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Possession of I.M.S.A. Work Zone Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months, depending on when testing is available, not to exceed 12 months.
• Possession of I.M.S.A. Signs and Markings Level I Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months, depending on when testing is available, not to exceed 12 months.
