Job summary

City of Valdosta is seeking a skilled technician to assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control devices. You will fabricate signs, erect signs, inspect and replace damaged signs, and install pavement markings and counters as needed.

Requirements include knowledge of MUTCD, highway signs manual, work zone safety, tool operation, ability to operate a vehicle, and a high school diploma or equivalent; apprenticeship or 1–2 years’ experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Standard Highway Signs Manual.
  • Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Knowledge of city policies and procedures related to the manufacture, maintenance and installation of signs and pavement markings.
  • Knowledge of work zone safety principles.
  • Skill in the operation of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of an assigned vehicle.
  • Skill in the installation and maintenance of signs and pavement markings.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
