Job summary

The City of Round Rock, TX is hiring for a Signs and Markings Technician to install and maintain traffic signs and pavement markings for the city. Under general supervision, you will fabricate, install, and service signs, ensuring they meet state, city, and MUTCD standards, and you will operate equipment to mark roadways and fire lanes.

Responsibilities include data collection for engineers, neighborhood surveys, and traffic counting to assess the impact of improvements.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Some college preferred.
• One year of experience in a construction related field; signs and markings experience preferred.
• Possession of Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Possession of IMSA Work Zone Certification or ability to obtain within 6–12 months.
• Possession of IMSA Signs and Markings Level I Certification or ability to obtain within 6–12 months.

Responsibilities

• Fabricates, installs, and maintains signs using Traffic Cad software; installs bases or poles; replaces signs per standards; replaces graffiti signs; repairs damaged signs.
• Installs and maintains pavement markings with thermal or paint machines; grinds lines for relocation; stripes fire lanes and no-parking lanes; maintains city facilities parking areas; installs delineators and raised pavement markers.
• Handles special projects by collecting data, surveying neighborhoods, and counting vehicle and pedestrian traffic for engineers.
• Conducts traffic monitoring functions to measure the effectiveness of improvements.
