Job summary

CPKC, a North American rail leader, seeks a Manager of Signals and Communications in Mason City, IA. You will oversee a team ensuring reliability of S&C systems, manage testing and commissioning, and gather data for affidavits.

This role blends engineering rigor with field leadership and regulatory compliance. You will supervise technicians, coordinate cross-functionally, and ensure 24x7 readiness while upholding safety, quality, and efficiency across yards and crossings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years railroad experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Electronics/engineering degree bonus.
• Proven safety-focused planning and execution.

Responsibilities

• Direct safety leadership and drive continuous improvement in safety.
• Analyze signal failures to prevent recurrence and improve reliability.
• Ensure S&C systems meet safety standards and approve new equipment into service.
• Maintain records of S&C equipment, installations, tests and revisions.
• Coordinate with maintenance and construction to maximize productivity.
• Coach junior S&C staff on technical aspects as needed.
• Distribute S&C alerts and field updates, coordinating responses.
• Leverage collective bargaining agreement for effective work management.
