Job summary

CPKC in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a Manager of Signals and Communications to lead a team ensuring reliable S&C systems and yard networks. You will oversee testing, inspection, and commissioning of new installations, and collect data for affidavits.

This safety‑driven role requires strong leadership, knowledge of S&C equipment and regulations, and the ability to support on‑call operations with up to 60% travel.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3+ years of railroad experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Associates of Applied Science in Electronics and/or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is a bonus.
• Proven track record in planning, prioritizing and executing plans in a safe environment.
• Proficient knowledge of S&C equipment, signal principals, standards and regulatory requirements.
• Good computer skills (CAM, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and SAP).
• Interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Ability to support on-call operations (24x7 availability).

Responsibilities

• Directs safety leadership and cultivates continuous improvement in workplace safety.
• Analyses reported wrong side signal failures to lower recurrence risk.
• Ensures S&C system safety meets standards.
• Approves entry into service of new or modified S&C systems.
• Maintains records of S&C equipment, installations and testing.
• Coordinates activities with maintenance and construction to maximize productivity.
• Coaches junior S&C staff on technical aspects.
• Distributes S&C Alerts and updates with field actions.
• Leverages the collective bargaining agreement for work management.
