Job summary

Norfolk Southern in Canton, OH invites applications for an Electrical Apprentice Signal Trainee. This hands-on program trains you to install, inspect, and maintain railroad signal systems essential to safe operations while offering classroom instruction and extensive field practice.

Training lasts about 52 weeks with sessions at the NS Center and in the field. Expect up to 75% travel during training, on-call duties, and the potential need to bid on positions across districts.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within 90 days of hire (training provided).
• Must pass FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Perform FRA-required inspections and testing of signal systems and grade crossings.
• Install, maintain, and repair signal equipment including signal lights and switch machines.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams.
• Operate testing instruments and hand tools; document inspections and work performed.
• Work safely outdoors and be on-call including nights/weekends.
