Job summary

Valdosta Police Department is seeking a dedicated individual to assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control devices. The role involves fabricating signs, erecting and inspecting sign installations, painting curbs, and maintaining road markings.

Responsibilities include applying reflectors, setting up safety barricades, operating hand and power tools, and ensuring work zones meet safety standards while supporting city departments with sign-related projects.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Standard Highway Signs Manual.
• Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Knowledge of city policies and procedures related to the manufacture, maintenance and installation of signs and pavement markings.
• Knowledge of work zone safety principles.

Responsibilities

• Fabricates signs for all city departments.
• Erects guide, warning, regulatory and street signs.
• Inspects existing signs and replaces damaged or defective signs.
• Installs reflectors on roads.
• Installs or repairs pavement markings.
• Paints curbs and sign posts; stripes roadways.
• Clears brush at intersections and from around signs.
• Installs thermo stop bars, crosswalks, and lane lines.
• Installs and uninstalls traffic counters.
• Installs detour and safe work zone barricades, cones and signs.
• Performs related duties.
