Job summary

City of Valdosta is seeking a Traffic Sign Technician to assist in installing, maintaining, and repairing traffic control devices across the city.

You will fabricate signs, erect and inspect signage, install reflectors, pavement markings, and detour/barrier setups while following safety guidelines.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, basic math, and the ability to operate tools and a vehicle; prior apprenticeship or 1–2 years of related experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles of the major duties.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Knowledge of traffic control devices and city procedures.

Requirements

• Knowledge of the Standard Highway Signs Manual.
• Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Knowledge of city policies and procedures related to the manufacture, maintenance and installation of signs and pavement markings,
• Knowledge of work zone safety principles.
• Skill in the operation of hand and power tools.
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of an assigned vehicle.
• Skill in the installation and maintenance of signs and pavement markings.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
