Job summary

City of Pflugerville is seeking a Sign Maker to fabricate, install, and maintain transportation signage according to established standards. You will work under departmental supervision, using power tools and chainsaws to clear obstructed signs and to set up barricades as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma and about one year of sign-making experience; adherence to safety rules is essential, with potential temporary assignments to other departments for support.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 year of experience with sign making or related field.
  • Ability to understand verbal and written work instructions.
  • Ability to operate safely vehicles, equipment, and tools and to understand all related operating instructions.
  • Ability to judge potentially dangerous situations and to alter course of action immediately to avoid accidents.

Responsibilities

  • Makes street signs, stop signs, yield signs, and other necessary transportation signage as required.
  • Install and repair sign post.
  • Creates, maintains and completes all work orders on the work order system.
  • Operates chainsaw and other power tools to remove trees and branches from obstructing view of traffic signs.
  • Helps set up barricades for emergencies, traffic control and flooding.
  • Performs all job duties according to all approved safety rules and procedures.
  • Promptly reports all accidents, injuries, theft, loss, and broken/damaged equipment/property to the immediate supervisor.
  • Reports all unsafe practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor.
  • Actively participates in monthly safety meetings.
  • May be assigned temporarily to other departments to provide related support.
  • Other duties as assigned.
