Cabarrus County School District in Concord, North Carolina seeks an Educational Interpreter/Transliterator I to translate and interpret for deaf or hard of hearing students in classrooms and school activities.

Daily directions come from the general education teacher or teacher of the deaf; requires Level 3 on EIPA or TEC Unit Level 3 and a high school diploma, plus 15 hours annual training; pay grade NC10; full-time position.

Qualifications

Educational Interpreter/Transliterator I must have Level 3 on the EIPA or a state passing score with a high school diploma.
No prior experience is required.
Annual 15 hours of training related to interpreting approved by the local education agency.
Educational Interpreter/Transliterator I with cued speed requires Level 3 TEC Unit assessment and a high school diploma.
No previous experience is required. Annual 15 hours of training related to transliterating approved by the LEA.

Responsibilities

Facilitates communication between the student and peers and adults in the school environment.
Studies the context of lessons prior to class to ensure accurate representation.
Tuts students who are deaf or hard of hearing under teacher direction.
Provides feedback to teachers upon request.
Acts as liaison to promote positive, cooperative relationships within the school.
May teach beginning sign language to students or staff.
Performs related work as required.
